Learn Spanish and nature conservation at Spanish Language school in San Isidro de El General - Costa Rica

The Spanish language school (SEPA) is located in San Isidro de El General, a picturesque and friendly small city in the county of Pérez Zeledón. This rural community is located 135 km South from the capital and it is known as the gateway to Southern Costa Rica where life is very much like the old times with a touch of progress.


The region's topography is diverse and presents the highest altitude peak in the country (3820 m.a.s.l.), Mount Chirripó, which is located in the Chirripó National Park. An extensive valley with an average altitude of 700 meters above sea level, and the low lands of the Pacific Coast accompany it. Therefore, the varied topography of the region that extends from the high mountain plateaus to marine environments allows the existence of different microclimates that explain the great wealth of flora and fauna in the region. The average temperature is 23.7ºC (74.7ºF) and precipitation is about 3800 mm annually.


SEPA offers the student the opportunity to study Spanish and to participate in voluntary programs covering different activities but emphasizing environmental education. Some places to carry out the volunteering are National Parks and farms. Similarly, the student will be in direct contact with Costa Rican culture by living with host families. Some of our options offer the opportunity to take tours to very interesting places in the area. On the other hand, our school gives the student the facility to arrange his/her own trips during the weekends or at the end of the course.

Pristine beaches, Tropical Rain Forest, Cloud Forest, Cold and Windy Forest characteristic of Talamanca, the highest Costa Rican mountain, Chirripó National Park and many other beautiful places can be easily reached from the study Center.

SEPA has programs for people of all ages and levels of fluency in Spanish. Teachers are highly qualified. The "Total Immersion" method is applied to help the student learn quickly. Activities about environmental protection and other topics are introduced during the lessons in order to maintain a high interest in the progress of the learning experience. All programs are flexible. Thus, that the student can ask for a combination of them if wished.
